Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Chikungunya Fever (CF) is an arbovirus that can cause major epidemics. The hallmark of this disease is incapacitating arthralgia, which can persist for extended periods, causing deterioration of functional capacity and quality of life. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of CF on quality of life, determining associations and clinical-demographic correlations. METHODS: 72 patients with CF were evaluated from May/2016 and July/2017, recording clinical-demographic data. The quality of life assessment was performed through the application of the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey. Association measurements were performed using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney test or Student's t-test. Correlation measurements were performed using either Pearson or Spearman tests. RESULTS: The main findings were a significant association between the physical and mental scores of non-hypertensive and non-diabetic patients. Patients with no hair loss improved, as did patients without limb edema. In addition, those without the need for antimalarial or corticosteroids improved faster. The PCS (Physical Component Summary) and MCS (Mental Component Summary) had significant correlations when compared to the number of painful joints, edema, visual analogue scales and HAQ. CONCLUSIONS: CF has a high impact on patients' quality of life, requiring greater investments in prevention and research of new Treatments.
