Abstract: BJECTIVE: Correlate the physical activity level of obese and overweight pregnant women with socialdemography, obstetric and antropometrics characteristics. METHODS: Prospective study, developed at IMIP, located in Recife, with 40 obese and 6 overweight pregnant women. All attendees had in common gestational age until 28 weeks, single gestational and age over 18 years. It was applied the Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire to measure the physical activity level, divided in 6 categories, classificating the pregnant women in sedentary, light level, moderate level or vigorous level, through the MET value. RESULTS: Including all 46 pregnants, 87% are sedentary and 13% are light activity. In quantitative variations, it was found a directly proportional correlation between birth numbers and MET value. And, in qualitative variants, it was found the relation between skin color and ocupacional activity. However, after a detailed study with linear regression, only the second variant has become significant. CONCLUSIONS: Occupational activity is considered relevant to permanence of physical activity during pregnancy, contributing to a better quality of life for these women
