Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the presence of risk factors for the metabolic syndrome in overweight children and adolescents. Methods: The cross sectional analytical study was carried out, with 54 patients attending the children 's nutrition clinic at the Institute of Integral Medicine Professor Fernando Figueira. The data collection was done after the approval of the Committee of Ethics in Research of the Participatory Institution. Data were collected from the parents / guardians, and the anthropometric data collection (IMC, height, P / I, BMI / I, arm circumference, tricipital skin fold of the arm and waist-to-height ratio) and biochemical data were collected from the patient's chart. The analyzes were not in the SPSS Program version 13.0. Results: The sample was predominantly adolescent (72.22%) with mean age of 10.9 years (± 2.5), mean age was 7.2 years (± 1.28). ABEP showed 57.7% belonging to social class C, followed by classes D and E with 31.48%. According to the BMI / I indicator, obesity or obesity was present in 38.89%, followed by overweight with 31.48%. The circumference of the arm shows obesity in 75.93% of the evaluated ones, as well as the waist circumference and the low waist surgery diagnosed in obesity in 83.33% and 68.62%. The prevalence of changes in blood pressure was 35.15%. According to the biochemical tests with significance in HDL (50%), LDL (42.86%), triglycerides for children (77.78%) and adolescents (52.38%), cholesterol (52%) and only Fasting blood glucose did not change. Conclusion: The results of this study have been demonstrated and corroborated with several, since the high prevalence of individuals with MS, as well as the metabolic ones, are predictors for MS.
