Abstract: Objective: to evaluate the epidemiological profile and pre and postnatal care of patients with gastroschisis born and treated at IMIP. Method: retrospective and descriptive cross-sectional study, from January 2011 to December 2015. Data were obtained through analysis of 77 charts of newborns (NBs) with gastroschisis and their mothers, through a structured table with aspects of the prenatal, immediate puerperium and postnatal period, observing survival rates, treatment and complications. Results: a high sepsis rate was observed (66.2%), which delayed the onset of the diet, increased hospitalization time and the death rate. It wasn’t found a relation between prematurity, the way of delivery and staged repair with sepsis or mortality in our series. The overall mortality rate found was 46.7%. Conclusion: a high death rate is observed in patients with gastroschisis. Sepsis is the main aspect associated with mortality, so it is necessary to fight infection in our service. Studies on factors associated with gastroschisis are important to better manage NBs with this malformation.
