Abstract: The labeling of any product is intended to provide more detailed information on the product in order to guide the consumer in their purchase and use. In food supplements, such information is controlled by the National Agency of Sanitary Surveillance (ANVISA), which dictates the mandatory information in its composition, such as authorized substances and indicates maximum and minimum limits of usage, as well as curbing alleged health benefits that may lead the consumer to untrue conclusions. These ANVISA standards are registered in legislation, requiring compliance with its guidelines in the information recorded on the labels. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze 24 food supplement labels based on omega 3, a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids that are of great importance to numerous functions in the body, marketed in Recife-PE. Through this study, it was possible to verify that the manufacturers of these supplements have not complied with these legislations, unfulfilling the adequacy of their labels according to legal requirements.
