Abstract

Objective: To investigate the segmental levels of trunk control in the sitting posture of children diagnosed with Congenital Zika Syndrome (CZS). Method: This study was performed with children with CZS, from ages 1 to 3. The checklist and data collection form were applied to identify whether the participants met the eligibility criteria required by the research and to collect personal information of the children. Thereafter, the researchers applied the SATCo (Segmental Assessment of Trunk Control) scale to evaluate the trunk control in static, active and reactive, and, in identifying what were the segmental levels of the children. Microsoft Excel 2013 software was used to handle the data, which was tabulated and analysed by descriptive statistics, then, expressed in meanand standard deviation. Results: The study had a sample of 22 children, with the predominance of 68.18% as female children and of 90.90% as three-year-old infants. Regarding the birth weight, there was an average of 2.81 ± 0,42kg and gestational age with a mean of 38,75 ± 1,50 weeks, in which most children were born at term (76.19%).The findings for trunk control levels were: 45.45% had no control, 22.72% presented cervical control, 13.63% had upper thoracic, 9.09% had middle thoracic, 4.54% had lower thoracic and 4.54% complete control. Conclusion: That was the first study to investigate the levels of trunk control in children with CZS, so the results were satisfactory.
