Title: Adesão às dietas da moda por estudantes do curso de nutrição em uma faculdade privada do recife-PE

Abstract: Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the adherence of fad diets such as gluten-free, lactose-free and low-carb diets, by students from the nutrition course of a private college in Recife (PE). Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out in students from the first to the sixth period of a private college in Recife through a questionnaire containing sociodemographic data, a food frequency questionnaire and a 24-hour recall. To analyze the statistical data were used SPSS Software 13.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) for Windows and Excel 2010. Results: 102 students from the nutrition course were evaluated, of which 85.3% were female. The majority were between 20 and 30 years old (59.8%) and unmarried (92 ,1%). Of the students evaluated, 54.3% affirmed that they recently made some changes in the dietary pattern, with 7.2% adhering to gluten-free diets, 17.9% to lactose-free diets, 19.7% to low-carb diets. Among the reasons that led the students to change their eating habits were weight loss (48.1%), food restriction (5.4%), specific pathology (8.9%). Of these students, 58.9% reported that they made the dietary changes with a nutritionist's follow-up. Conclusion: The present study concluded that nutrition scholars had low adherence to fad diets and that they recognize the importance of a professional accompaniment for food planning, although the number of students who do diets without the advice of a nutritionist is relevant.
