Avaliação do impacto da implementação de uma cartilha educativa com exercícios terapêuticos desenvolvida para pacientes com gonartrose que estejam na fila de espera do setor de reumatologia do CER IV-IMIP: um estudo piloto

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate, from a functional scale, the impact of an educational primer developed for patients with gonarthrosis. Methods: Cross-sectional experimental study, carried out in the specialized rehabilitation center (CER IV-IMIP). First, the participants were summoned and screened, based on the waiting list of the physiotherapy service. Then, an evaluation form was applied in which the pain was quantified through the presentation of the analogue pain scale (VAS). The range of motion of the knee was verified by goniometry, muscle strength by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and functionality through the Lysholm functional scale. At the end of the evaluation the participants were given an educational booklet developed by the researchers, at which point it was explained how it should be used. Finally, after 15 days of use of the booklet, the participants were re-evaluated. Results: It was observed that after the use of the proposed material 80% of the sample presented positive changes during the activities of daily living and 20% identified negative changes on them. The EVA showed a final painful mean of 6.2, which shows an improvement of 16.3% compared to the mean of the initial VAS score 7.4. Conclusion: The present study indicated that participants with gonarthrosis who used the educational manual with therapeutic exercises benefited in a relevant way in their pain and knee function.
