Resumo: INTRODUCTION: omphalocele is a congenital malformation of the anterior abdominal wall, frequently related to other malformations. In the international literature, its mortality rate varies between 5-30% of cases. OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the epidemiological profile and pre and postnatal care of patients with omphalocele born and treated at IMIP. METHODS: a retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional type study of patients with omphalocele born in the IMIP from January 2005 to December 2015. Data were obtained by analyzing the records of neonates and their mothers. Records with missing information above 50% or which could not be rescued by the IMIP Archive were excluded. RESULTS: 42 medical records on maternal and fetal aspects were evaluated. An average maternal age of 25.8 years, with prenatal diagnosis in 76.2% of the cases, was observed. The predominant route of delivery was cesarean section (83.3%). In relation to complications, a high sepsis rate (42.9%) and associated malformations (61.9%) were found. The mortality rate was 47.6%. CONCLUSION: it was observed that the epidemiological characteristics raised in our study corroborate with much of the data mentioned in the literature. Of the indices considered divergent, special importance must be given to the high rates of sepsis and death found.
