Avaliação das principais marcas comerciais para suplementação de micronutrientes isolados que se adequem às gestantes na cidade do Recife

Abstract

Micronutrients are essential to the full functioning of the human organism. During the gestational period, their requirements are increased due to the intense growth and cellular proliferation. Meeting the nutritional needs of the maternal and child group, considered as a risk group, for the development of nutritional deficiencies, should be a concern of health professionals, and prevention and early diagnosis of micronutrient deficiency are extremely important . The present study aimed to evaluate the main commercial brands for supplementation of isolated micronutrients; folic acid, iron, calcium, vitamin A and zinc that are suitable for pregnant women according to the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation 2016. Seventy samples of isolated micronutrient supplements were available at specialized stores for the commercialization of nutritional supplements and pharmacies located in the city of Recife / PE and, after analysis, it was seen that 21 samples of the isolated micronutrient supplements were inadequate according to the recommendation for pregnant women. It was concluded that, through the evaluation of the composition of isolated micronutrients, it was verified that there are inadequacies regarding the dosage when it comes to the recommendation recommended by WHO for pregnant women. Realizing that they restrict the health professional options for prescription of available brands.
